Wood Craft Projects

Toilet Tissue Holder
This Wood Craft Projects - Toilet Tissue Holder makes a great gift any time of the year. The child makes a toilet tissue holder out of a Quaker Oats box and tongue depressors. It can be painted appropriately for the recipient.
This craft is great for ages 8 and up, or 5 and up if the parent cuts the box and gives a little help. The box fits regular-sized toilet tissue rolls, not double rolls.
Materials:
- 1 Quaker Oats cylindrical box
- 22 tongue depressors
- White glue
- Felt pens or tempera paints (Poster paints will soak into the wood.)
- A paint brush if using paint to decorate
- Pretty, wide ribbon
- A craft knife and sharp scissors
Method:
- A parent should cut the top part off the Quaker Oats box so that the bottom is 5"{12 1/2 cm} deep.
- Discard the top. It's easiest to measure and mark the box first
and then cut once about 1" {2 1/2 cm} above the final cut line.
- Cut a second time right on the line.
- Glue the tongue depressors 1/2 way around the box; they will be longer than the box and rise above the rim.
- Glue the rest of the tongue depressors around the box and let dry overnight. There will be a small area not covered.
- Cover the small area not covered by tongue depressors with a strip of the pretty ribbon.
- Use the felt pens to decorate the box.
- Glue ribbon around the top rim and make tails that hang down.
Kite - Wood Craft Projects 2

Wanting to make a kite? Kites are fun and colorful crafts to make. The best part about it, is that once made, you can spend a windy afternoon flying your homemade kite.
Materials:
- Two sticks (one 32"(80cm) long, the other 24"(60cm) long)
- Large sheet of thin plastic (a bin bag will work)
- Black felt tip pen
- Colored paper
- Sticky tape
- Reel of thin string
- White glue (PVA)
- Pair of scissors
Method For This Wood Craft Projects:
- Tie the two sticks into a cross using the string. The longer stick should be vertical and the shorter one horizontal to that.
- Now tie the string from corner to corner so that it makes a kite shape. See picture.
- Put the kite frame onto the plastic and draw around it using your pen.
- Draw a border about 2.5inches (5cm) wide.
- Cut two small holes in the plastic along the vertical stick, as shown, and cut semicircles at each corner of the kite.
- Strengthen the holes and corners with sticky tape.
- Cut out a design using the colored paper and glue them onto one side of the kite.
- Lay the frame on the other side, i.e. your design is now facing the ground.
- Flap the 2.5inches (5cm) border over and around the string.
- Tape the borders firmly over the string.
- Turn the kite over and tie a piece of string through the two small holes to make the "bridle string."
- Tie the loose end of the reel of string to the middle of the "bridle string", to make the flying line.
- Cut a strip of plastic about 2.5inches (5cm) wide and 1m long.
- Make cuts along both sides of the strip.
- Tie one end to the bottom of the kite. This is the kites tail.
- Your kite is now ready to fly.
